Qualcomm pushes Oryon clock speeds past 4.6GHz in Snapdragon 8 Elite
Qualcomm is preparing its next flagship mobile chip with higher Oryon CPU clocks and an updated Adreno GPU for the next wave of Android phones.

Higher clocks and a refined 3nm build
Qualcomm is finalizing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for release late this autumn, and early test boards show big jumps in raw speed. The silicon uses two prime Oryon cores clocked at 4.61GHz alongside six performance cores running at 3.63GHz. That setup drops efficiency cores entirely, continuing the layout Qualcomm introduced on its previous flagship run.
The processor is fabricated on TSMC's refined 3nm node. In leaked Geekbench 6 runs, single-core numbers sit around 3,580 while multi-core passes 10,200 points. Those figures put Qualcomm within striking distance of Apple's single-thread lead while maintaining an edge in sustained multi-threaded rendering.
Adreno 840 graphics and thermal targets
Graphics duties fall to the Adreno 840 GPU, which gains expanded hardware ray-tracing capabilities. Qualcomm claims peak power draw remains near 14 watts during short bursts, but phone manufacturers will need substantial vapor chambers to avoid throttling. Brands like OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Samsung are already queuing up for initial inventory.
